Board chairman Andrew Cline is president of the Josiah Bartlett Center for Public Policy. Before that, he was an independent writer and communications consultant. His more than two-decade career in journalism includes 14 years as editorial page editor of the New Hampshire Union Leader, where he led the opinion pages and became a respected authority on state public policy. He was twice named Editorial Writer of the Year by the New Hampshire Press Association for his investigative work on state political issues. In 2014, he received the first Media Ally award from New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence for his editorials championing laws to protect victims.
As an independent writer, he has been published in more than 100 newspapers and magazines, including The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Atlantic Monthly, The Boston Globe, The Weekly Standard, and National Review. He was member of USA Today’s Board of Contributors. Before coming to the New Hampshire Union Leader, he was director of publications at the John Locke Foundation in Raleigh, N.C.
He also serves on the boards of the Daniel Webster Council and the Educational Farm at Joppa Hill, a non-profit teaching farm in Bedford.
Cline was appointed to the board and named chairman by Gov. Chris Sununu in May of 2017.
