New Hampshire Department of Education Announces Online High School Equivalency Exam System

CONCORD: The New Hampshire Department of Education announced today that residents interested in taking the high school equivalency exam are now able to register, pay and schedule their test online. This process previously involved a manual process. The HiSET eRegistration system will provide flexibility for test takers, including online payment and access to multiple testing sessions in different testing centers.

The HiSET, published by Educational Testing Service (ETS), is a nationally recognized high school equivalency exam that has been used in New Hampshire since 2014. Successful completion of the exam leads to a High School Equivalency Certificate issued by the Department of Education and opens opportunities for graduates to enter into postsecondary education or training, enter into or advanced in their careers or join the military.

Testing admission is open to New Hampshire residents only who are 18 years or older without a high school diploma. A waiver is available for students under 18 who meet certain requirements and requires approval from the Bureau of Adult Education. Those students must take the exam at an approved Test Center.

The HiSET Exam can be taken at an approved Test Center on paper or on the computer and At-Home Testing will be available as of January 18th for test candidates who are at least 18 years old.

Many employers, civic organizations, school districts and churches assist test takers with the cost of the exam by purchasing vouchers directly from ETS.
