Granite State Scholars Announced

Commissioner of Education, Virginia M. Barry, Ph.D., has announced the 2010 Granite State Scholars. Representing 88 high schools around the State, 843 students earned the status as a Granite State Scholar.

In accordance with RSA 188-D:39, the granite state scholar designation shall be made by the Commissioner of Education by the end of March. The designations were made from lists submitted to the Commissioner's Office by the high school principals and participating colleges. The qualifications for designation are: student must be a high school senior, under the age of 21; student must be ranked in the top 10% of the senior class; and must have scored at least 1200 on an SAT exam taken on or before January 31st of the student's senior year (or an equivalent score on ACT).

This year 843 high school seniors were designated as Granite State Scholars, up from 835 last year and 750 in 2008. "It is an honor for these seniors." Each recipient will receive a certificate signed by the Governor and the Commissioner.
