Moultonborough Academy is seeking a full-time teacher - Latin Job Description: Moultonborough Academy is a small, rural public school serving approximately 350 students in grades 7-12 in the beautiful Lakes Region of central New Hampshire. The Latin program has been in existence since the school opened over 30 years ago, and currently consists of six preparations (7th grade Latin, 8th grade Latin, Latin II, Latin III, Latin IV: Classical Latin Prose, and Latin V: Classical Latin Poetry). Students begin their study of Latin in 7th grade and may continue through until 12th grade if they choose. Lower level courses use the Cambridge Latin Course, and upper level courses study selections from Medieval Latin as well as the Classical Latin prose and poetry authors. Class sizes in the Latin program generally range from 5 to 18 students per class.
Moultonborough Academy Latin students are very active: they participate in the National Latin Exam, the Medusa Mythology Exam, the Scribo Latin Composition Contest, and regional Certamen competitions. A trip to Rome every two years is an integral element of the program for juniors and seniors. The Latin Club is particularly active in planning and organizing fundraisers to offset the cost of the trip to Rome. Both the Latin Club and the Certamen Club are compensated on a stipend basis.
This position is full time with benefits including participation in the New Hampshire Retirement System. A unique feature of the Moultonborough School District is $1,400 per teacher funding for teachers to pursue professional development opportunities. In addition, the Latin teacher has direct input into what books, materials, and supplies are purchased annually by the School District for the program.
